Job Description
The Mental Health Social Worker I position involves completing the intake process for children and youth who are experiencing emotional/behavioural/social difficulties and their families. Through active liaising with parents (and/or collaterals) and community services, the Mental Health Social Worker I works with a multidisciplinary team to complete the initial intake screening to determine service needs. In addition, the Mental Health Social Worker I will provide professional and confidential services through the Urgent Response Service in a comprehensive, flexible, and timely manner, including: screening and intake of children/ youth with Autism who request the service; providing service navigation for all children/ youth referred; and leading the development, monitoring and evaluation of the Urgent Reponses Service Plan for those who meet the criteria for the service. The Mental Health Social Worker I will use a family centered approach with a focus on each individual’s strengths. Co-facilitation of treatment groups for children/youth may be requested.
Qualifications
Experience with vulnerable or at-risk populations including special needs – Required
Experience working in a social work capacity with preference given to children’s mental health and/or understanding of developmental complex special needs - Preferred
Knowledge of child development
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Commitment to strength-based principles of child, youth, and family centeredness
Experience working with the child and youth service system
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries
Strong organizational, verbal, written and reporting skills
Experience working with individuals experiencing trauma
Demonstrated ability to make critical decisions quickly
Valid Ontario Driver’s License, means of transportation and ability to travel on a daily basis for outreach services – Required
Education and/or Certification
Bachelors of Social Work Degree (BSW) - Required
Current Certification of Registration issued through the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers - Required
