Job Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Registered Nurse utilizes a client-centered, recovery-oriented, mental health service delivery model. Using the principles of client-centered care within the context of an interdisciplinary team approach, the Registered Nurse will provide service to those with mental health and addiction disorders. The Registered Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, program psychiatrist, physicians, educational resources and other health care professionals. The Registered Nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications
1 year of experience in the field of psychiatric/mental health nursing (inpatient acute/tertiary) – required
1 year of experience with outpatient mental health programs– preferred
Recent experience (within in the last 2 years) in the administration of Electroconvulsive Therapy – preferred
Competent in 12 lead EKG interpretation and defibrillation (will be tested) – preferred
Knowledge of relevant legislation; Mental Health Act, Substitute Decision Act, Health Care Consent Act
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team approach and adhere to accepted standards of personal conduct
Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, procedures and practice in accordance with the standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses and regulations of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset
Education and/or Certification
Current Certificate of Registration issued through the College of Nurses of Ontario - required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing – required
Mental Health Nursing Certification - preferred
B.C.L.S certification - required
A.C.L.S certification- preferred
